MOUNT VERNON – Neighbors Driving Neighbors (NDN) is a volunteer-based non-profit organization that provides free rides to rural residents in its service area. NDN hosts its annual online auction, and bidding action is now ramping up on featured experiences like a Kennebec River tour; on treats like brownies and cookies; and arts and crafts. The auction’s starting flag was waved on July 1 and NDN is heading for a strong end on July 29. Visit biddingowl.com/neighborsdrivingneighbors to bid on unique artwork, treats and experiences.
As NDN builds community ties by connecting volunteer drivers with passengers, it relies on community support to continue its operations. Its annual auction brings together a range of items donated by community members and local businesses, including gift certificates for popular destinations; lake and river cruises – as in the 1968 “Amphicar”; paintings, lithographs and other works of art; baked goods; and services like learning how to make the perfect pie crust or preparing a will.
NDN is grateful for the generous support of so many in the community and is honored to be able to provide transportation to help people continue to live fulfilling lives in their homes. Founded in 2015, NDN trains volunteer drivers to transport registered runners from Vienna, Mt. Vernon, Fayette, Rome and Belgrade to destinations within 35 miles of their home. This year, despite a slowdown due to the pandemic, NDN volunteers have already traveled 5,018 miles.
If you or a loved one needs transportation within the NDN Five-City Area, contact to register with NDN at www.neighborsdrivingneighbors.org or call (207) 860-0677. Follow NDN on Facebook at Neighbors Driving Neighbors. They will be delighted to see you on the road!
As the auction closes at the finish line, there are still items and experiences up for grabs. You can bid from the comfort of your own home, at biddingowl.com/neighborsdrivingneighbors
