52nd Annual West Texas Rehab Telethon and Auction Coming Saturday

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – The West Texas Rehabilitation Center’s 52nd Annual Convention Telethon and Auction takes place this Saturday, January 22, and all proceeds will benefit patients at the center.

The televised event will be broadcast live from the Abilene Convention Center starting with the auction shows starting at 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and the live event starting at 7:00 p.m. and continuing until midnight.

In addition to the telethon, the live auction will feature more than 600 items up for sale, from sports memorabilia to paintings and quilts. There will be over 19 categories of items to bid on with a retail value of $500,000.

Headlining the live music are country stars Sawyer Brown, Red Steagall and the Boys in the Bunkhouse, as well as new country music 2021 female artist of the year Gabby Barrett. Rising local country artist Ariel Hutchins will also perform.

West Texas Rehab President and CEO Steve Martin said he has high hopes for this year’s event, having hosted the two highest-grossing telethons in the center’s history over the past few years. last two years. He said he hopes to top $1.5 million in donations this year.

“If we were to hit that $1.5 million mark this Saturday night, it would cross the $50 million mark in 52 years of telethon,” Martin said.

All proceeds will go directly to the West Texas Rehab Center, used in all areas of the center, said director of pediatrics JoBeth Huber-Willis.

“We’re able to meet equipment needs, we’re able to pay for therapy and things kids and adults need through our donor sponsorship program,” Huber-Willis said.
