ABERDEEN, Mississippi (WTVA) – Aberdeen’s power utility is in need of new housing.
Lamarcus Thompson is the Managing Director of Aberdeen Public Utilities. He said it is a challenge to serve customers in these difficult conditions.
âWe’re still trying to manage that, to bring customers in and out,â he said. âWe find that our building is old here and we really need an upgrade. “
The department is experiencing leaks and mold in all three locations. Roof repairs would cost $ 142,000 or more.
Mayor Charles Scott said they wanted to be able to better house the equipment.
“When our guys get into this truck, if they have to dry it, it might prevent us from getting to our job to handle one of the service calls.”
The city has considered building a new location, but that might not happen. They are now considering buying the Stevens Auction Company on Meridian Street for $ 300,000 with the property behind it for $ 65,000.
Scott said they were conducting an appraisal for the Stevens Auction Company and once done they planned to close the deal.
