DUBUQUE, Iowa (KCRG) – The first Iowa major league regular-season baseball game at the Field of Dreams movie site turns out to be more than just a game.
Major League Baseball is auctioning off items worn during the Yankees and White Sox game on August 12 for a good cause. The proceeds will be used to support the MercyOne Dubuque Cancer Center. Some of the items they auction include the jerseys and batting helmets that the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees used in the Field of Dreams game.
The money will go to the cancer center endowment fund which will help purchase supplies, expand staff training, and help patients cover their travel and accommodation costs. MercyOne Dubuque staff said MLB staff also spend time with patients on game day.
“They took two hours out of that day, which they could have spent in Dyersville in the Field of Dreams, but they took two hours out of that day to come here, recognize our patients, recognize that we’re with you, what you’re going through, ”said Chad Kruse, regional director of the MercyOne Dubuque Cancer Center.
The opening bid for each item is set at $ 200. The auction is open until Sunday September 5th. You can find the auction here.
