Former Green Beret Chris Miller, one of the first Americans to set foot in Afghanistan after 9/11 and whose unit was portrayed in the film 12 Strong, will share his memory of the war on terror and the horrific September 11 attacks at the Del Mar Country Club Golf Tournament and Gala Dinner

Almost 20 years to the day since his deployment, Miller will provide a unique window on the war in Afghanistan, a war that raged for almost 20 years until United States’ recent withdrawal. Master of “irregular warfare,” Miller will recount the perfectly executed strategy of the 5e Special Forces Group, which worked closely with local Afghan leaders to put together an astonishing series of American victories.

Since his term as Green Beret ended, Miller has worked at the Pentagon, where he oversaw US Special Operations Forces, and then served as Acting Secretary of Defense.

Funds raised from the Del Mar Country Club Golf Tournament and Gala Dinner will support the SOF Support Foundation’s mission to ensure that U.S. Special Operations Forces and their families receive the support they need to lead well their operations, keep their families intact, and lead healthy and productive lives after leaving service to our nation. SOF Support strives to give visibility to these needs, to promote a better public understanding of the role of SOFs, and to strongly support and defend SOF staff and their families.

Some initiatives funded by SOF Support include mental health services, including individual psychotherapy, family therapy, drug and addiction treatment, and where applicable, residential drug and alcohol rehabilitation options. The Transition with Meaning program paves the way for individuals to continue serving oppressed people around the world. And aided by SOF support, Navy SEAL families have been able to participate in wellness and resilience programs with other members of the Special Operations Forces community, participating in activities that include SCUBA certification. , group therapy, and chaplain-led retreats.
