Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp Hosts Quilt Auction Weekend August 6-7

The Okoboji Lutheran Bible Camp is all about bringing families together.

And that’s exactly what they plan to do with their annual Quilt Auction Weekend August 6-7.

“This is our 34th annual quilt auction. This is a time to help raise funds for the camp, but it is also a time to come together and for everyone to come and enjoy each other’s company, ”said Megan Newell, Director of Communications for the Camp. camp.

They host the event on weekends so there will be no campers on site.

Weekend activities begin at 5:30 p.m. on Friday August 6 with the Scandinavian Feast. Dinner lasts two hours and costs $ 12 for adults and $ 6 for children. The menu includes Alaskan pollock, Swedish meatballs, roasted pork loin, potatoes with parsley butter, cream peas, pickled herring, coleslaw, cucumbers with cream, rice pudding, aebelskivers, kringla and lefse.

Dinner is followed by a concert featuring Okoboji’s Mellow Dees at 7 p.m. at the camp amphitheater.

“It’s a mostly instrumental group and they do a variety of songs. They will be on our lakefront waterfront in our amphitheater, ”Newell said.

Saturday will kick off with a fun 5km run at 8 a.m.

Next, the focus is on the quilts.

This year there will be two quilt auctions – one in person at camp and one online. The online auction will run from 8 a.m. on Friday August until 6 p.m. on Monday, August 9.

The in-person quilt auction begins at noon and will be preceded by lunch in the dining room.

“We have about 250 quilts and quilted items up for auction,” Newell said. “Most of the time, the quilts are donated by churches and people associated with our camps. “

Besides being a great fundraiser, it’s also a great time to reconnect.

“There are a lot of families and individuals who have been connected to the camp and it is fun to see their generosity throughout the day as well as to see these people come together,” said Newell.
